about

Clare Young is a painter, printmaker and crafter based in Sydney, Australia.

Her inspiration comes from reading, music, interiors and her much loved family and garden. Her paintings are expressions of mood and light. Expressive paint strokes are overlaid with oil and soft pastel shapes that evoke memories of teacups, flowers, jelly fish, boats, bowls and friends.

Clare's paintings are all one-off original artworks in both oil and acrylic, her etchings and screen prints are all limited edition prints (max 8 prints per edition). The process ensures that each print retains its own unique character.

Clare Young (nee Byrnes) previously worked in television and radio with roles including Web Designer & Producer for ABC TV and Triple J; Creative Director of Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s New Media Unit; Creative Director of Boston Consulting Group’s e-commerce division Platinion; and Internet Services Manager for SBS TV and Radio. During this time Clare won numerous awards for her work.

After the birth of her daughters Clare swapped digital design for more tactile artforms. She studied oil painting (primarily portraiture), etching and printmaking, paper cut screenprinting and woodcut and linocut printing.

Clare spent 2012-2103 building an extension on her home and documented the process on her blog Young Audrey. Clare now divides her time between her studio and continues to work part-time in leadership and communication training.

Clare and her Golden Retriever Willow are Delta Therapy Dogs Australia volunteers.
